Wade Phillips and Tony Romo face a similar challenge

A team that doesn’t want to follow its quarterback and/or head coach has no chance of being successful.

Wade Phillips and Tony Romo have a lot of work to do to get the Cowboys to follow them.

Romo has acknowledged that he needs to take on more of a leadership role, but in his next interview a couple of weeks later, he went off on a philosophical soliloquy about leadership that reinforced doubts about his ability and desire to lead.

Romo’s philosophical take on life and losing in the aftermath of the Philly Flop went over in some corners of the locker room about as well as it did with the general public. There will also be some teammates who aren’t pleased about the perception that Romo helped run T.O. out of town.

As far as all Phillips’ issues, well, JJT covered them in excruciating detail in his column this morning.

Romo’s odds of regaining respect in the Valley Ranch locker room are much better than Phillips for a few reasons. The most important: The franchise QB has job security, while the head coach is a lame duck in the final season of his contract.
