Rookie linebacker Jason Williams is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a high ankle sprain. Rookie safety Mike Hamlin is expected to miss six weeks with a broken wrist.

But what if the NFL changed its injured reserve rules?

Years ago they would allow teams to put players on IR for four games during the season and allow him to return. If a player goes on IR now, he’s out for the season. The league changed the rule because teams were stashing players on IR when they were not hurt.
